Pug Prop Spotted in Movie

This pic is from the classic movie Gone With The Wind. It's the scene where Scarlett has taken over the lumber yard and her current husband Frank is scolding her about how she runs the business.

Notice the pug head prop.

This is an example of excellent scene dressing - pugs were exceptionally popular during the Victorian age and you can find pugs adorning all sorts of items, from pickle jars to inkwells.

This was not solely because of pug-loving people. Pugs were seen as a symbolic shorthand for status.

Anyone who had pretensions to being rich and classy would definitely have a pug on their office desk.

Wait...Does This Mean...?

Just finished watching an old (1951) mystery movie on Netflix - typical innocent man framed for crime, on the run, etc. Only two people will help him, and older man and a (loose) woman.

I like these sorts of old movies, so it was fun. And then at the end, when the crime is solved and his innocence proven and we're ready for the big Happily Ever After...

HE GIVES THE WOMAN A WRISTWATCH AND GOES OFF WITH THE OLDER MAN.

And I'm like: Wait... Wait.... Did that just happen? The woman got a practical gift ... and he's going off to live on the isolated desert ranch with the older man? What year... 1951?! I didn't know you were allowed to end a movie like that in 1951.

I'm still amused.

Wuthering About HeathKitty

funny pictures of cats with captionsI saw a new-to-me version of Wuthering Heights on Netflix last night and now I'm wondering if I should watch it or not.

You see, I don't like Wuthering Heights.
Love Jane Eyre.
Really don't like Wuthering Heights. Yes, I get that Heathcliff is a classic romantic doomed hero.

But Cathy married another man!

So, instead of being HeathKitty, he should have moved on. Why did he even like her to begin with? She was mean to him, selfish and annoying.

And she married another man!

How's that going to work in the afterlife? Remember, there's that thing about how Cathy and Heathcliff are ghosts together at the end--but what's-his-name is going to be there, too, right? I mean, they're buried all in a row. Are they going to have a threesome?

But I've seen several of the other adaptations - including the Timothy Dalton (yum!) version, so I should probably watch this other one just to complete the set.

What do y'all think? Are there some Wuthering Heights fans out there who disagree with my assessment?
